PROF. (MRS).B. C. VAZ
PRINCIPAL, FULLINFAWS COLLEGE

Prof. (Mrs.) Bernadette C. Vaz completed her PU and graduation from St. Joseph’s College (Commerce Section). Bangalore during 1967 to 1971. She joined an international Child Welfare Organization as an Accounts Assistant in 1971 and quickly reached the top Administrative Cadre. During this period she completed her M.Com (as an external candidate) with the help of coaching classes conducted by St. Joseph’s College of Commerce.
Mrs. Vaz coming from a family, which has a great love for teaching, gave up a promising career in an international child welfare organization and joined St. Joseph’s college of Commerce in 1981 to serve her Alma Mater.
Prof. Mrs. B C Vaz carried out the responsibilities of the Head of the Department of Commerce from 1998 onward. In 2002 she was appointed as the Dean of Studies and in 2004 as the Registrar of the College. When the Principal had to go on a six months study leave from September 2004 to February 2005, the Management had no difficulty and with complete confidence appointed her as Principal for that period. With her high standards of professionalism and commitment to the institution, she ably discharged the duties of the Principal. She was always one who could be depended and relied on. She was of great support and the confidence gained by her years of experience made it easier for the Principal and staff to go through some major academic challenges, be it the grant of the Autonomous status in 2005 or the Reaccreditation process by NAAC in 2006.
The Silver Jubilee issue of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce ‘Blue Chip’ magazine mentions this about Mrs. Vaz: referred to as “Lady of quality” in one of the annuals, she has been meticulously serving the College since 1981. Her stern outward demeanor fails to hide the warmth within. Students past and present have benefited from her no-nonsense approach to teaching” She always believed that true education is “Training both the head and the heart” and that “Education ought to teach a person not only how to make a living but how to live”.
Prof. (Mrs. Vaz) retired from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce in January 2008 and is now the Principal of Fullinfaws College.
